"The Murder Room" by P.D. James seems to be about various obsessions: love, sex, money, status, etc.
Are the characters justified in pursuing their obsessions?

I think at least in their own minds their actions are justified by their obsessions. At least Muriel Godby thought her actions were justified. I enjoyed reading this book although it did take a while to get to the first murder. P.D. James develops her characters and scenes to the extent that I almost felt as though I was there.
